CRaNHR Research Associate Position (Revised) (Texte en anglais seulement)

(NOC 4165 Health policy researchers, consultants, and program officers: Health Services Researcher)

The Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research (CRaNHR) at Laurentian University is seeking a Research Assistant to conduct rural and northern health research, with a community and patient-oriented focus. This new staff member will work as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary research team. 

 

CRaNHR (for more information see Centre for Northern and Rural Health Research) is an academic and applied research institute that conducts scientific studies on the organization, delivery, and effectiveness of rural and northern health services. CRaNHR personnel work closely with Faculty Investigators at Laurentian University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine to conduct grant and contract-funded research.


Qualifications

  • Masters' in health sciences, health professional education, population health, health services research, or other relevant disciplines (e.g., Indigenous studies, anthropology, sociology, epidemiology, psychology, economics, geography).

  • Research experience and knowledge in one or more of the following areas: 

    • Rural, remote, or northern population health service access and use, and health status or well-being

    • Patient-oriented health research

    • Digital or virtual health care research

    • Evaluation research

  • Practical understanding of and experience with Quantitative and Qualitative research methods.

  • Proficiency in using data analysis software packages (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R, NVivo).

  • Understanding of knowledge transfer and translation; with the ability to write for diverse audiences.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skill in English is essential. Bilingual English/French would be as asset but not essential. 


Responsibilities for this position include the following tasks

  • Searching, reviewing and synthesizing research literature.

  • Data collection, data management and data analysis.

  • Writing research reports and manuscripts based on quantitative or qualitative data.

  • Assisting to identify funding opportunities and with grant writing.

  • Translating evidence-based research into community reports, newsletters, academic publications and other media.


Full Time Equivalent: 1.0 FTE (1 FTE = 33.75 hours per week)

 

Note: In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Research Assistant will work remotely during restrictions, with gradual increase to full-time hours on campus  

Salary: $50,000 to $55,000 per year

CRaNHR (for more information see Centre for Northern and Rural Health Research)  is an academic and applied research institute that conducts scientific studies on the organization, delivery, and effectiveness of rural and northern health services. CRaNHR personnel work closely with Faculty Investigators at Laurentian University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine to conduct grant and contract-funded research.

Job Description & Responsibilities

  • Manage budgets for two Principal Investigators (for approximately 20 active projects) 

  • Maintain accurate accounting and budget forecasts, including salary projections

  • Assist with hiring of new staff

  • Monitor research project milestones and ensure deadlines are met

  • Track and maintain research agreements and ethics approvals on all research projects

  • Ensure timely and professional correspondence with research team members, grant funders, and the Laurentian University Office of Research Services, Human Resources & Finance offices 

Requirements/Qualifications

  • University or college degree in Business, Public Administration, Accounting, or related field

  • Training or experience in research Project Management

  • Excellent organizational, communication and computer skills

  • Knowledge of basic accounting practices and accounting software 

  • Proficiency with various software packages (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Money, Adobe, etc.) 

  • Able to work independently 

  • Experience working in an office setting 

Full Time Equivalent: 0.6 FTE - 1.0 FTE (1 FTE = 33.75 hours per week)
